Gamelan Gita Asmara
Vibrasi Bali
This event took place at Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre on May 11th, 2019. As taken from their website, “Gamelan Gita Asmara is a Vancouver-based collective dedicated to performing Balinese gamelan and its many international offshoots. By engaging with the local community and collaborating with Canadian, Balinese, and other international artists, we provide opportunities for people to broaden their experiences with disparate musics and cultures.”
This was one of my longest event shoot to date, but it did not feel long at all. Gamelan performances are just fun to watch and the instruments look gorgeous. There is a lot of movement and lots of performers in a gamelan group, so every second, there is something new to capture. Seats were surrounding the main stage, which allowed me to walk around freely so that was great for capturing the performance from many different angles. I was also there for the rehearsal, which was good for getting close up shot that I would not be able to get during the main event. The proceeds from this shoot was donated to environmental charities.
All pictures taken with Fujifilm X-H1 and X-T2 with XF16-55mm, XF50-140mm and XF100-400mm lenses.
